Based on the High Tech for High Touch: 2016 Hospitality Vision Study compiled by Zebra, there are five things most guests and attendees are looking for from any venue.
Five Technology Options Every Group Desires
- 77 percent are interested in virtual reality.
This might be surprising to you, but VR is in great demand for meetings and groups. 2018 will be a pivotal year for this technology as more applications and better hardware are introduced. Ask if the venue you’re considering offers a VR arena where attendees can blow off steam and play games in a totally immersive environment.
- 74 percent are receptive to mobile-based, customized offers and loyalty programs.
Provided attendees indicate their personal preferences before the event, they can obtain geotargeted offers, promotions and upgrades as they move throughout the trade show and convention center floor on their smartphones. These offerings can benefit both the event organizer and venue, as they give attendees immediate call-to-actions that are limited to the duration of the conference.
- 68 percent want to use their smartphones for everything.
From check-in to unlocking their room, guests prefer to bypass the front desk or event registration area all together. Since 92 percent of all adult Americans carry a smartphone, it’s essential to have an app for both the venue and the event. Be sure to have greeters at guest check-in to guide them through the download and access mechanisms of the app(s).
- 49 percent found free Wi-Fi to be a factor in choosing a hotel.
Hotel guests, attendees, exhibitors and event planning staff do not want to pay for Wi-Fi on top of all the other expenses at a hospitality venue. Providing free, secure and robust Wi-Fi that’s available throughout the entire venue helps sell the location as one that understands the importance of keeping its users connected.
- 34 percent want more access to USB ports and power outlets.
Because laptops, tablets and smartphones are with attendees most of the time, it’s vital these users have access to charging stations and power outlets. Due to the limited number of outlets in most meeting rooms, attendees may be forced to plug in outside the meeting space in hallways, thus making a choice to forfeit part of a session and stand by the device while it charges or let the mobile device drain its battery life.
